Gastric bypass and hair loss have been linked so do your homework

Any time we have an operation there are potential complications and side effects that must be clearly understood before the procedure is started.  There is a link between having a gastric bypass and hair loss.  Although this operation is relatively safe, you must remember that it is considered major surgery and things can go wrong.  So before proceeding make sure you understand that after gastric bypass, hair loss can occur.

Some people experience side effects immediately, while others experience them months later after a gastric bypass.  Hair loss can be experienced after the operation often 3-4 months later.  Quite often it revolves itself between 7 and 9 months after surgery.  One way to stop thinning or baldness it to take protein and other vitamin supplements.  Remember, this side effect may be permanent.

Gastric bypass and hair loss can be associated because after this type of surgery, vitamins and minerals are not absorbed into the body as efficiently as before the surgery.  Iron deficiency has been attributed to hair loss, thinning and baldness so it is critical you take supplements to ensure you are getting the recommended daily amount.  Other supplements recommended are calcium, B12 and Folate.  Speak to your doctor first before taking anything.
