The DHT and hair loss connection

DHT, hair loss relationship, what is it?  Great question.  Studies have shown that both losing one’s hair and prostate disease are related to a hormone called Dihydrotestosterone or DHT.  Hair loss and prostate disease occur when the 5 alpha reductase enzyme interacts with male testosterone.

There is a definite link between DHT, hair loss and prostate disease.  DHT is extremely potent and as a derivative of testosterone, it can impact the hair follicle which in turns leads to thinning and potential balding.  They are actually marketing shampoo that claims to decrease the Dihydrotestosterone levels in your hair and make it stronger and thicker.

DHT hair loss occurs when hair follicle cells are taken over by DHT.  Functioning hair cells are unable to grow properly and this then results in balding and thinning.  The areas on the head that are impacted first are the temporal areas, followed by the crown and then the top of the head.
